Akufo-Addo will deliver his final SONA address today

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is set to deliver his final State of the Nation Address to Parliament on Friday, January 3, 2025 before the dissolution of the Eighth Parliament.

The address will serve as the President’s final report on the state of the nation before he leaves office, as provided for in Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution.

The Eighth Parliament of the Fourth Republic will be formally dissolved on Monday, January 6, 2025. The Ninth Parliament will convene at 11pm on the same day to elect a Speaker and two Deputy Speakers.

According to a statement from the Parliamentary Affairs Bureau, the elected Speaker and newly elected MPs will take their oath of office at midnight, signalling the transition to the next Parliament.

To ensure comprehensive coverage of these events, Congress has asked media personnel to obtain pre-accreditation.
