Stop Destruction of State Property – Mahama Appeals to NDC Supporters

President John Dramani Mahama has requested that National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters avoid causing damage or stealing from public properties.

He urged party members to behave with integrity, emphasizing the importance of not engaging in actions that could erode the confidence Ghanaians have in them and warned against repeating the errors associated with the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

These comments from the President follow allegations of vandalism and theft of state assets by individuals thought to be affiliated with the NDC.

While addressing attendees at the National Muslim Prayer and Thanksgiving event at the National Mosque in Kanda, Accra, on January 10, Mr. Mahama stated, “I urge all our supporters and others involved in unlawful activities, like stealing or occupying government spaces, to stop such behaviours. We need to proceed differently to preserve the trust and faith that Ghanaians have in us.

“Many have indicated that this was similar to the actions taken by the NPP in 2017, which led to their removal from office. It is crucial that we do not replicate their blunders. I ask you to ensure we conduct ourselves in a disciplined manner.”

Mr. Mahama also encouraged NDC supporters to practice patience and bring their concerns to the ministers he will soon appoint.

“A government is in the process of being established, ministers will be designated, and other officials will be named. As I mentioned, our complete cabinet will be in place within 14 days.

“Thus, if you have any issues, you can reach out to the appointed ministers to find solutions. So, please exercise caution. Many people have noted that the NPP made similar promises when they entered office in 2017.”
