Kennedy Agyapong got involved when Chairman Wontumi intended to imprison me – A Plus
The Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, (A Plus) has provided details about his connection with Kennedy Agyapong, the ex-Member of Parliament for Assin Central.
He mentioned that their bond is founded on shared respect, highlighting how Kennedy Agyapong aided him during difficult times with certain people in the New Patriotic Party.
“The sole reason I participated in that gathering was due to Kennedy Agyapong. He is truly a commendable person. You might have your disagreements with him, but he is genuinely great. He is someone who will support you when you are in trouble,” he stated in an interview with Joy FM on Friday, January 10, 2025.
A Plus, as he is popularly referred to, revealed that Kennedy Agyapong stepped in for him during a dispute involving the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, known as Chairman Wontumi.
He alleged that a faction within the NPP had plotted to imprison him, specifically pointing to Chairman Wontumi as the one orchestrating the scheme.
“There was a period when certain NPP members conspired to imprison me. The morning before my court date, I was prepared and told my children there was a chance I might go to jail that day. Chairman Wontumi was involved in that plot against us,” he detailed.
A Plus explained that once Kennedy Agyapong became aware of the predicament, he returned from the United States to Ghana on the morning of A Plus’s court date to lend his support.
He believes that Agyapong’s involvement was crucial in preventing his trial and imprisonment.
“The morning before our court appearance, I received a phone call from Kennedy Agyapong who said, ‘I’m leaving America and heading to Ghana tomorrow because I don’t comprehend the situation.’ He actually canceled everything and flew back to Ghana, so whenever Kennedy Agyapong reaches out, I must be there to hear him out,” he shared.
The parliamentarian added that his choice to discuss and engage with the NPP concerning a potential partnership with their group in Parliament was shaped by his admiration for and relationship with Kennedy Agyapong.
“Despite posting on Facebook that my sentiments are shifting towards the NDC, I had to heed Kennedy’s advice. He is a wonderful person who will stand by you. He is a friend to friends and a brother to brothers, always there for you,” he concluded.
