Refrain from criticizing Mahama if you remained silent during Akufo-Addo’s era – Oheneba
A host from TV XYZ, Oheneba Boamah Bennie, has delivered a serious admonition to religious leaders who remained quiet while the Akufo-Addo administration mishandled national affairs, warning them against speaking out to criticize President John Mahama now.
During his segment on the Gumbe show, this outspoken media figure remarked that these ministers lack the ethical authority to condemn Mahama’s leadership, which is working to restore the nation’s economy, previously mismanaged by the Akufo-Addo government.
“If you chose to stay silent during the Akufo-Addo administration, maintain that silence now that Mahama is in charge. You should refrain from criticizing Mahama’s governance. Should you choose to speak against him, expect visits from us. We might make our presence felt at your church, instilling fear without taking anything. The pastor making nonsensical remarks is the one facing our concerns.”
He added: “We’ve noticed that even when God hasn’t given you a message, you claim to speak on His behalf. Now, if any pastor speaks foolishly about this recent election that brought Mahama back into power, and Ghanaians have urged him to take it easy while restoring the economy, we will not hold back. By the time John Mahama asks us to cease, you may find yourself overwhelmed. He [Mahama] possesses empathy; perhaps he might visit you, but you would have already been weakened by then. Individuals need to proceed with caution.”
Oheneba Boamah Bennie received a prison sentence on Tuesday, February 8, 2022, from the Accra High Court after the Attorney-General, Godfred Dame, charged him with contempt due to his allegations against President Akufo-Addo and certain judges.
Justice Elfreda Dankyi ruled that the 36-year-old was guilty of disturbing public order and spreading false information, violating Sections 207 and 208 (1) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
On December 14, 2020, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service detained the Power FM presenter from Accra for making threats and uttering insults toward President Akufo-Addo.
Reports state that Oheneba Boamah filmed a live video on his Facebook account in which he insulted the President and issued a number of threats.
He alleged that after the December 2020 elections, the President held discussions with several judges, including Chief Justice Kwasi Anin-Yeboah, claiming it was an effort to sway them should the opposing candidate John Mahama pursue a legal challenge regarding the election outcome.
The presenter was taken into custody after responding to a CID summons concerning this matter.
He regained his freedom in the early morning of Monday, February 21, 2022, following his two-week imprisonment.
