Antoine Semenyo expressed his excitement to score during this international window after going two years without finding the net for Ghana.
The striker last netted for the Black Stars in a 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match versus Angola.
He broke that goal drought in style by scoring the first goal in Ghana’s impressive 5-0 victory over Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, part of the 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign.
“I believe every player experiences a phase where they don’t score. I see each match as a chance to achieve a goal; if I don’t succeed, I turn my attention to the following match,” he stated after the event.
“I had a feeling that during this international break, I needed to find the net. I wouldn’t say I felt any pressure.”
His goal early in the match set a strong precedent for the Black Stars. Otto Addo’s squad needed a victory to ascend to the top of Group I in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers, and they quickly delivered, scoring in the second minute.
Inaki Williams, Jordan Ayew, Mohammed Salisu, and Ernest Nuamah also scored as Ghana secured a solid win.
The Black Stars are now preparing for a pivotal match against Madagascar in Morocco on Monday.
