Fatigue in Drivers, Reckless Speeding Linked to Accidents – NRSA
The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has identified over speeding and driver tiredness as the primary causes of recent accidents in the Ashanti Region.
Samuel Adu Gyima, Assistant Manager for NRSA in the Ashanti Region, stated that most recorded accidents involved drivers who were either asleep at the wheel or engaged in reckless overtaking.
Gyima stressed that these accidents are preventable and urged transport operators to take proactive measures.
He recommended hiring two drivers for long journeys to prevent driver fatigue, allowing them to rest and alternate driving duties.
Additionally, Gyima urged drivers to reduce their speed limits and adhere to road safety regulations to minimize accidents in the region.
These statements were made by Gyima in an interview with OTEC News Reporter Jacob Agyenim Boateng on Tuesday, October 15, 2024.
The concerns raised by the NRSA underline the importance of increased vigilance and responsible driving practices to enhance road safety.
