NDC criticizes NPP for intentionally spreading false election information related to voting
Frank Amoakohene, the Ashanti Regional Secretary for the National Democratic Congress, has stated that a video circulating online, which implies that voters need to thumbprint the ballot paper eight times in order to vote for the NDC flag bearer, is intentionally disseminating false information.
This statement follows a separate incident in which a man in another viral video broadcasted misleading details about Ghana’s voting procedures on Wontumi FM. Dr. Amoakohene expressed these concerns during an interview on Morning Starr with Naa Dedei Tettey on Monday.
Amoakohene observed that the dissemination of inaccurate information has the potential to create confusion among voters and compromise the integrity of the electoral process. He further remarked that he believes it is a intentional effort to undermine public confidence and weaken the integrity of elections.
“A brief comment on this is that the negative actions of individuals persist over time and that is why we view it as a purposeful dissemination of false information regarding elections,” Dr. [last name] said. Amoakohene made the following statement: Dr. Amoakohene underscored the importance of institutions, including the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), in educating voters. It is crucial that these institutions provide accurate information and clear guidelines to combat misinformation.
“The institutions in Ghana must be informed as the NCCE has a distinct role.” All relevant institutions responsible for upholding proper governance practices have been informed, including the National Commission for Civic Education. All the responses that they will produce must be in the English language. They are fully engaged during electoral periods advocating for peace and various issues.
These are intentional efforts to mislead the public. He expressed the expectation for them to take action. He also emphasized the importance of maintaining ethical standards in the electoral process. He stated, “However, we are obligated to uphold ethical principles in our political practices.”
If we do not desire an examination of the ethics that dictate our political practices in this nation, then all responses must be in English. Do we aspire to be compassionate and just, or do we choose to be merciless and chaotic?
Dr. Amoakohene further emphasized the importance of maintaining ethical standards in order to provide a proper and appropriate learning experience for younger individuals. We anticipate that the NCCE will intervene and address the situation by enforcing disciplinary measures.
