Two individuals succumb to cholera in Ada

A Cholera outbreak in the Ada enclave has resulted in the death of two individuals, with a total of 43 cases documented to date by the Ghana Health Service (GHS).

The outbreak has impacted both the Ada East and Ada West districts in the Greater Accra Region, prompting health officials to quickly respond in order to control the situation and avoid additional deaths.

The Director of Public Health at the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Frank Bekoe confirmed the figures and stated that efforts are being made to manage the cases and prevent the outbreak from getting worse.

Bekoe stressed that health officials are closely monitoring the situation, focusing on early detection of new cases and tracing contacts of those affected to contain the spread of the disease.

There are 37 confirmed cases in Ada East and six confirmed cases in Ada West. We are focusing on mortality rates. Since the onset of the outbreak, there have been two fatalities. Our focus is on early identification of cases, tracing contacts, and conducting follow-ups as necessary in our current situation.

Cholera, a contagious disease caused by Vibrio cholerae bacteria, spreads through consuming contaminated food and water. It commonly occurs in regions with inadequate sanitation and restricted access to clean drinking water. Cholera symptoms encompass acute diarrhea, vomiting, and dehydration, with potential fatal consequences if untreated promptly.
