Nungua Mantse has been elected as the new President of the Greater Accra House of Chiefs

The Nungua Mantse, Oboade Notse King Professor Odaifio Welentsi III has been chosen as the President of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs (GARHC).

Until his selection, Professor Welentsi III served as the House’s Vice President and acting President. He assumed the role of acting President after the previous President of the House, the Paramount Chief of Shai Osudoku Traditional Area, passed away.

The Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, initially intended to run for the position but withdrew his candidacy in a letter to the Greater Accra Regional Director of the Electoral Commission, Mrs. Gladys Pinkrah.

This decision cleared the path for Professor Welentsi III to run unopposed. He is expected to hold the position of President of GARHC for four years, in accordance with Act 759 of 2008, which mandates that elections for the President’s position take place every four years.

Nene Tetteh Wakah III, the Paramount Chief of Prampram Traditional Area, was also elected as the Vice President of GARHC. Professor Welentsi III and his Vice President both took the oath of office and oath of secrecy administered by Ms. Bacilia Adjei-Tawiah, a circuit court judge.

Following the administration of the oaths, the judge advised the chiefs to prioritize peace and development in their roles. She also encouraged them to avoid involving chieftaincy matters in legal disputes. In his remarks, Professor Welentsi III expressed his gratitude to the chiefs for electing him and viewed his election as a collective victory and a call to serve the people for their benefit.

He stated, “I see this as not only my personal triumph, but a victory for all.” “I will be assuming the role of President for the next term. I consider it a shared responsibility with all of you,” stated Professor Welentsi III. Despite his extensive experience and knowledge of ethics, codes, and protocols, he acknowledged the need for guidance and support from colleagues to carry out his duties effectively.

“I will proactively solicit insights from our previous President and fellow House members on areas of common concern.

I anticipate and rely on your accessibility to me when I request assistance, especially in pressing and crucial situations.

The President of GARHC expressed regret to any individuals he may have upset and committed to enhancing the accomplishments of his forerunner.

As individuals, we are prone to errors and capable of making errors, whether unintentionally or intentionally. I wish to extend my apologies for any offense or inconvenience I may have caused to any member, whether intentionally or unintentionally, in the past or present. “I humbly request your forgiveness.”

“As the President, I have my own unique vision and may approach certain subjects and activities differently than my predecessor.” I will honor and build upon his contribution, while also introducing new ideas for the benefit of all.
