The Dormaahene has committed to resolving the conflict with the Otumfuo
Dormaahene Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyeman Badu II has committed to addressing all misunderstandings and conflicts with the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
This pledge was made during a courtesy call from Nana Kwame Bediako, also known as Cheddar, the presidential candidate of the New Force.
Cheddar, as part of his regional campaign, visited Dormaahene’s palace to advocate for reconciliation between the Dormaahene and the Otumfuo. Both Otumfuo and Osagyefo hold significant roles as chiefs in their respective communities. Without God’s blessings, they would not have risen to the position of chiefs. All occurrences have a purpose.
“I have come bearing beverages as a gesture of goodwill, and I will intercede on Otumfuo’s behalf to resolve any animosity between you both.
“I, Nana Kwame Bediako, am willing to sacrifice for the sake of harmony. If the two of you are in agreement, peace will prevail in Ghana. If there is a division, then we are also divided. Cheddar stated that if the intended action is not achievable, they should execute him.
Dormaahene assured that his endeavors to preserve harmony with Otumfuo will not be fruitless. The remark has rendered me speechless. He has tackled issues that our national leaders are unable to address. Everyone desires peace. After careful consideration, I assure him that his endeavors will not be futile.
“If it were not for the 1992 constitution of Ghana that prohibits chiefs from participating in politics, I would have publicly expressed my support for him,” he stated.
Dormahene has been openly critical of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II regarding specific traditional authorities that he believes the Asantehene does not have a right to. Despite an absence of a clear explanation, it is an established fact that Dormaahene and Asantehene do not have an amicable relationship.
This strained interaction has been observable over the years through multiple incidents of their alleged animosity, as highlighted in the media. Dormahene’s recent objections against Otumfuo revolve around a disagreement concerning the promotion of Fiaprehene to paramountcy by Otumfuo, a move that Dormaahene contends exceeds the jurisdiction of the Asantehene.
