Special voting witnesses a lowest voter turnout at polling locations of 83% – EC
The chairperson of the commission, Mrs. Jean Adukwei Mensa, has indicated that the Electoral Commission does not foresee any deficits in election materials and equipment across the nation during the elections scheduled for December 7.
During what she described as her final interaction with the press ahead of the electoral day on December 7, 2024, the EC chairperson remarked that the commission had adequately supplied all regions with necessary materials and equipment, further stating, “we do not expect any shortages in any area of the nation.”

She announced that there are 18,774,159 registered voters, which accounts for 55 percent of the overall population, who will participate in the elections on December 7.
Providing an overview of the special voting process, she stated that the initiative was not only successful but also achieved a remarkable voter turnout, with the lowest participation recorded at 83 percent.
Regarding media accreditation, she mentioned that the commission had issued nearly 10,000 accreditations to media personnel, granting them access to polling places, as well as constituency and regional collation centers.
She therefore encouraged journalists to utilize their lenses, platforms, and writing to educate the public and deliver accurate information and truth.
“Step up to the challenge and report on the elections with precision and honesty,” she urged.
Concerning observers, she informed that the Commission had accredited more than 20,000 local and international observers.
Additionally, Mrs. Mensa stated that the observers have been supplied with maps to help them identify the various polling locations.
