Pope Skinny is embarking on a new career as a truck driver in the United States.

Ghanaian rapper Pope Skinny has transitioned to a new career path, moving away from the music industry to pursue a new opportunity as a truck driver in the United States.

During a candid interview with Nana Romeo on Accra FM on October 9, 2024, the rapper discussed his decision to switch, pointing out the lack of financial security for musicians in Ghana.

“Our job doesn’t even come with SSNIT,” Pope Skinny noted, in reference to the Social Security and National Insurance Trust. He emphasized the financial challenges faced by many creative individuals in their later years, attributing the difficulty not to personal irresponsibility but to the system’s lack of long-term support. This is the reason why many artists seek assistance as they age.

Encouraging younger artists to plan for the future, he recommended exploring potential opportunities in countries with more dependable social security systems. He cautioned that without a popular song, one may face financial difficulties, emphasizing that his move to a new location has helped him establish financial security.

Pope Skinny expressed disapproval of the Food and Drugs Authority’s prohibition on celebrities endorsing alcohol, stating that it restricts the income opportunities for artists in Ghana. He mentioned, “I am currently driving a large truck in America.” I was unable to accomplish this task in Ghana without facing ridicule.
