Police have rejected claims of misinformation regarding Vormawor’s medical costs while in custody.
The Ghana Police Service has debunked recent social media allegations that Oliver Barker-Vormawor, a political activist and leader of the Democracy Hub, was discharged from the Police Hospital back to custody due to insufficient funds for medical expenses.
In a formal declaration, the police denounced the accusations as “blatant untruths” intended to elicit public sympathy for Barker-Vormawor.
The Police Service clarified that all medical costs accrued during his hospital stay were fully covered by the police, in accordance with their Standard Operating Procedures for detained suspects.
Moreover, the Police Service stressed their inability to disclose specific expenditure details due to the doctor-patient confidentiality principle.
They also dismissed assertions that Barker-Vormawor was hastily taken to the hospital, labeling such reports as unfounded and advising the public to dismiss them.
This announcement comes amidst a flurry of allegations and counter-allegations concerning Barker-Vormawor’s treatment while in police custody, as he confronts charges linked to his activism and public statements.
