The Member of Parliament for Ofoase Ayirebi, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has called on the government to stop pointing fingers and concentrate on fulfilling its responsibilities to Ghanaians.
In a recent interview on GH One TV on Tuesday, he mentioned that President John Dramani Mahama’s latest State of the Nation Address was filled with too many complaints.
Kojo Oppong Nkrumah recognized that the government led by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has spent excessive time attributing the nation’s issues to former President John Dramani Mahama instead of focusing on effective governance.
“Much of the recent State of the Nation Address was dedicated to grievances. These complaints played a role in the 2024 election outcome, which is why we lost power. The citizens of Ghana felt we did not meet their expectations, leading to our defeat.
“Even President Mahama conceded that he did not intend to complain, yet a significant portion of his address centered around the difficulties he faced when taking office,” he remarked.
The former Information Minister urged the government to make fulfilling its campaign commitments a priority, highlighting that the NDC was elected to tackle the pressing issues faced by Ghanaians.
“There will come a time for us to evaluate our performance against President Mahama’s. However, that moment is not now. Today presents a chance for the government to reflect on why Ghanaians elected the Mahama administration and what they anticipate it will address.
“And therefore, as the opposition, we want to motivate the government: do not replicate our past errors. Concentrate on executing your governance initiatives now, and we will support you in delivering results. For now, the time for propaganda must end—it is time to get to work,” he concluded.
