NDC Constituency Secretary Detained With 23,000 Ballot Papers In The Volta Region

On Thursday, December 5, at around 12:45 p.m., Immigration officials located at Hevi, an unauthorized passage in the Akatsi North District, intercepted three ballot paper booklets. Each booklet consisted of 1,000 ballots, totaling 3,000 ballots overall.

The seizure took place during a standard surveillance operation by immigration agents in the Ave Havi region, while on their way to Vodome in neighboring Togo.

The apprehended individual, Hon. Abraham Ahiabu, who currently serves as the NDC Constituency Secretary for Akatsi North, was taken into custody. During questioning, Hon. Ahiabu asserted that he was delivering the ballots to Vodome to educate voters on the proper method for casting their votes during elections.

Nevertheless, the details surrounding this occurrence have sparked considerable apprehension. Hon. Ahiabu disclosed that he possessed an extra 20,000 ballot booklets, which has amplified doubts. The selection of an unauthorized route, often linked with irregular cross-border activities, has intensified speculation regarding the true intent behind the ballots.

Numerous individuals have raised inquiries about the necessity for voter education in Togo utilizing Ghanaian ballots, particularly so close to Ghana’s electoral period. These worries have contributed to accusations of a potentially illicit effort to enable foreign voter involvement in Ghana’s voting process.

Ahiabu has been transferred to the Ghana Police Service at the Akatsi North District headquarters for ongoing investigation.

In the meantime, the confiscated ballot booklets have been sent to the Akatsi North District Electoral Commission to confirm their legitimacy.

Officials are executing a comprehensive inquiry into the matter to guarantee that the integrity of Ghana’s electoral system remains intact.
