NDC clings to prophecies following political defeat, says Atta Kyea
The Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South Constituency in the Eastern Region, Mr Samuel Atta Akyea, has criticized the National Democratic Congress for losing touch with political realities. He claimed that the party is unable to garner traditional political support and has resorted to spiritual gatherings instead.
Speaking to a receptive audience in Asiakwa during the New Patriotic Party running mate’s constituency visit, Mr Atta Akyea dismissed recent prophecies from religious figures predicting an NDC victory. He labeled them as mere human predictions rather than divine declarations.
Encouraging Ghanaians to not place excessive importance on such prophecies, he reminded them that election outcomes are determined by the people’s votes at the ballot box, rather than spiritual proclamations. “Elections are decided by the people’s votes, not prophets’ words,” he emphasized.
Mr Atta Akyea stressed that political discussions should revolve around crucial issues such as the economy, education, and infrastructure. He advised political parties to concentrate on substantial plans for the country’s future instead of relying on spiritual interventions.
Furthermore, Mr Atta Akyea criticized a specific prophet who had reportedly insulted former President John Mahama in the past but is now predicting victory for the NDC. He questioned the credibility of such prophecies and called them misleading.
He reiterated that while spiritual leaders are entitled to their opinions, democracy ultimately hinges on the voters’ choice. He urged Ghanaians to make decisions freely, without undue spiritual influence. “The democratic process remains the legitimate way to choose our leaders,” Mr Atta Akyea stated, emphasizing the need for voters to focus on practical governance issues.
During his speech, he encouraged Ghanaians to maintain hope regarding the potential for excellent governance under Dr. X’s leadership. Mahamudu Bawumia and Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh warned that the NDC would be unable to deliver the necessary progress for the country, highlighting the NPP’s successful implementation of the Free SHS policy. He suggested that the NDC could jeopardize this initiative. Atta Akyea characterized former President Mahama’s political future as being “on a spiritual holiday,” encouraging NPP members and supporters to work diligently towards securing victory in the 2024 elections. He expressed confidence in the NPP as the optimal choice for Ghanaians and called on all party members to rally behind Bawumia’s candidacy for sustained advancement.
