Kyerematen asserts that Kufuor is rallying against him by supporting Bawumia
Alan Kyerematen, who heads the Movement for Change, has charged former President John Agyekum Kufuor with opposing his candidacy in the presidential race.
He asserts that Kufuor’s support for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, appears to be aimed directly at him.
Kyerematen contends that he is one of the leading candidates in the elections and feels that the NDC candidate, John Dramani Mahama, cannot be underestimated by Kufuor, given that both are former leaders.
He also warned Kufuor against making public endorsements regarding the election.
In an interview with Starr FM on December 5, 2024, he remarked, “I would advise President Kufuor that after an esteemed career in politics, he ought to refrain from making electoral statements about the upcoming election.
“You might remember that this isn’t the first occasion on which he has backed the vice president, and no one had any issue with that. However, when you extend your comments to make comparisons about who is superior or the best, it effectively indicates that you are campaigning against the two of us.
“And from my perspective, if he is also making these remarks concerning former President John Mahama, then it becomes quite peculiar, as I struggle to comprehend how he could persuade the NDC that Bawumia surpasses former President John Mahama.
“It seems unusual for a past leader to render a verdict against another former leader. Therefore, if that were indeed the situation, I interpret it as him essentially campaigning against me.”
