Joana Gyan Cudjoe contests petition seeking to disqualify her from running in Amenfi Central election

The National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) Amenfi Central parliamentary candidate, Joana Gyan Cudjoe, has lodged an appeal with the Electoral Commission regarding a petition aiming to prevent her participation in the upcoming December 7 election.

Lawyers representing the parliamentary candidate, Ayine and Associates, penned a letter dated October 15 to the EC, emphasizing that Joana Gyan Cudjoe is the officially elected candidate of the NDC.

The initial paragraph of the lawyers’ communication stated, “We are writing on behalf of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Joana Gyan Cudjoe, the NDC Parliamentary Candidate for the Amenfi Central Consistency for the 2024 Parliamentary Elections (referred to as ‘our clients’), to address the matter at hand.”

The letter further mentioned that their clients were informed about a purported petition dated September 13, 2024, and a subsequent letter dated September 24, 2024, received by the EC.

These documents alleged the existence of an interim injunction order restraining Joana Gyan Cudjoe from assuming the role of the NDC Parliamentary Candidate for the Amenfi Central Consistency, as well as restraining both the NDC and the Electoral Commission and their affiliates from acknowledging or providing rights to Joana Gyan Cudjoe as the duly elected candidate for the Amenfi Central Constituency.

Conversely, the current Member of Parliament for Amenfi Central, Peter Yaw Kwakye-Ackah, announced his decision to run as an independent candidate following his defeat to Joana Gyan Cudjoe in the NDC primary election.
