The Majority Leader has initiated a parliamentary recall process
The Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has announced intentions to initiate a recall of Parliament on Wednesday, October 23.
Speaking on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Tuesday, October 22, the Effutu MP raised concerns regarding the recent decision by Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, to indefinitely adjourn the House.
Afenyo-Markin suggested that the Speaker’s actions may be part of a broader strategy by National Democratic Congress (NDC) MPs to disrupt parliamentary proceedings and harm Ghana’s economy.
Emphasizing the NPP’s commitment to counter these efforts, the Majority Leader stated their determination to ensure continued government business operation despite alleged opposition tactics.
Speaker Bagbin’s decision to adjourn parliamentary proceedings indefinitely on Tuesday, October 22, followed a dispute over caucus seating arrangements.
The Speaker indicated that he reached this decision after consultation with leadership, a move that Afenyo-Markin contested. When the minority speaks, he is often startled and exhibits signs of fear or apprehension.
