The Member of Parliament representing Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, commonly referred to as A Plus, has criticized a former president, thought to be Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, regarding his alleged misuse of authority and the shift in his position.
In a social media update on March 7, 2025, A Plus warned the community about the fleeting aspect of power, highlighting the fact that all things are temporary.
He reminisced about the time when the former president had a dedicated official Toyota Land Cruiser meant exclusively for his unique chair.
A Plus noted that this same person, who is no longer in power, was present at Ghana’s 68th Independence Day event on March 6, 2025, where he sat in a regular chair without any special provisions.
Furthermore, A Plus claimed that the ex-president stood up to welcome the Vice President of the Republic, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, which was a sharp contrast to his earlier insistence that chiefs rise to acknowledge him.
“Not so long ago, a certain individual used to travel in an official Toyota Land Cruiser specifically assigned to transport his unique chair. He thought his authority was so significant that chiefs needed to rise when he arrived.
“Now, just a few months later, this same individual was seen at Ghana’s 68th Independence Celebration, sitting in a standard chair. Additionally, when the Vice President, a woman, came, he stood up to greet her.
“Life has a way of putting us in our place. Power is not everlasting. Tomorrow is always on the horizon! The next time, you may find yourself on a kitchen stool!” he remarked.
It should be remembered that former President Akufo-Addo was earlier accused by the opposing party of transporting his presidential chair in a luxurious V8 vehicle for official functions.
During his time in office, he also created buzz after instructing some chiefs to rise before addressing him at a formal event.
However, at Ghana’s 68th Independence Day celebration held at the Jubilee House, he was observed sitting on a chair allocated for the occasion.
