Afo-Tofee prepares to defend NDC’s Jomolo seat
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Jomoro, Mrs. Dorcas Afo-Tofee has expressed her resolve to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) party and the people of Jomoro to redouble efforts to retain her seat in successive elections.
She said grassroots participation and development played a key role in the NDC party’s landslide victory in the region.
Ms. Afo-Tofee, who retained her Jomoro parliamentary seat consecutively to 2020, addressed party supporters, sympathizers and clerics during a service of thanksgiving for her victory at the Bonyaire Victory Park in Jomoro Municipality, Western Region Muslim community and indigenes of Jomoro.
This follows her landslide victory as the Member of Parliament for Jomoro in the December 7 general elections.
Ms Afo-Tofee said she would work hard to make Jomolo a stronghold for the NDC, adding: “The huge margin in the 2020-2024 polls shows that the people of Jomolo have accepted her as their MP. She reiterated the NDC government’s intention to empower women through the establishment of the Women’s Development Bank and strengthening it to provide jobs to many youths in the constituency.
The lawmaker also called on President-elect John Dramani Mahama to push ahead with the Minorities Advancement Act by appointing 30% women to responsible positions in government.
Afo Tofee expressed serious concern over the need to rehabilitate Jomoro’s road network, especially from Samenyebaria to New Town.
She asked for continued prayers for the area to continue to develop further.
Constituency Secretary Emmanuel Ndako Benle said the party would relentlessly mobilize grassroots efforts to win the seat following the departure of former MP J. W. McCain. Akwa who secured a third term for the NDC.
He acknowledged that Jomoro has experienced unprecedented development under the NDC administration.
Ndako Benhle said Afo Tofi was committed to the development of Jomoro despite opposition.
He said many Ghanaians voted for change due to the failure of the NPP government to promote development and economic difficulties.
Ndako Benhle reminded NDC members to learn important lessons from the NPP’s disastrous electoral defeat and help Ghanaians develop with humility.
He advised NDC members to avoid arrogance and disrespect and uphold the rule of law.
