Wontumi pledges to provide tuition-free higher education if Bawumia wins Dec. 7 polls

Bernard Antwi Boasiako, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and widely recognized as Wontumi, has unveiled a fresh policy proposal for Ghana: Free University Education.

During a campaign kick-off event in the Subin Constituency, Chairman Wontumi disclosed that this initiative will be implemented should the NPP’s presidential nominee, Dr. Bawumia, win the election.

The upcoming December election will be won by Mahamudu Bawumia, as announced by Chairman Wontumi.

Bawumia’s administration aims to streamline university admissions by allowing students to use their Ghana Card as the primary identification, thus removing financial obstacles to higher education.

Chairman Wontumi, at a campaign event, called on voters from all political affiliations to back the NPP in order to safeguard the Free Senior High School (SHS) initiative.

He cautioned that this program, which currently benefits numerous students, could be jeopardized by a change in government. Chairman Wontumi pointed to past actions of the opposition NDC, such as the discontinuation of the free maternal healthcare aspect of the National Health Insurance Scheme initiated by former President John Kufuor, as evidence of their tendency to revoke established policies.

He also cast doubts on the NDC’s willingness to continue ongoing development projects in the Ashanti Region. The Ashanti Regional NPP chairman suggested that a return to power by former President Mahama would result in improper use of public funds, alleging a misuse of state resources.

Mahama would allocate two years for investigating the previous administration, one year for development, and another for seizing state resources. Furthermore, chairman Wontumi claimed that retired Commissioner of Police (COP) Kofi Boakye was organizing training for NDC members in the Ashanti Region prior to the December polls, cautioning that he would be responsible for any election-related violence.

The NPP’s Parliamentary Candidate for Subin, Lawyer Kofi Obiri Yeboah, also mobilized the constituency, encouraging voters to participate in large numbers to ensure a clear victory for Dr. Bawumia emphasized the party’s goal of achieving a 90 percent vote share in the constituency.

He urged supporters to vote in large numbers to ensure progress and continuity.
