Vote against NPP over Accra flood mismanagement – Isaac Odamtten

Isaac Ashai Odamtten, the Member of Parliament for Tema East, has expressed strong disapproval towards the Akufo-Addo-led government for its inability to resolve the ongoing flooding issue in the Greater Accra Region.

Odamtten has called on residents in the region and all Ghanaians to oppose the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming elections due to the government’s inadequate handling of the flood crisis.

He emphasized that blocked drains are causing significant inconvenience to residents and businesses with each rainfall. In an interview on Channel One TV’s Face to Face with Umaru Sanda Amadu, Odamtten accused the government of mishandling funds designated for the Ghana Accra Resilient Integrated Development (GARID) project, which aims to address the city’s historical flooding problems.

He stressed the urgent need for transparent actions to address this issue and criticized the government’s handling of the situation, citing the Dzorwulu dam as a symbol of corruption within the current administration. The government has committed to participating in the Greater Accra Resilient Integrated Development (GARID) initiative.

The project comprised nine sections: Odaw, Korle Klottey, Klottey Lagoon, Sakumono Lagoon, and the Dzorwulu drain. Its aim was to enhance Accra’s primary drainage system. Aligning and expanding these key systems enables them to accommodate more water and efficiently manage community water flow.

Failure to properly align them results in water hitting and pushing back, leading to flooding. Accra should oppose the NPP due to their exacerbation of the flood situation in Ghana. The Tema East MP asserted that the NDC excels in managing floods and urged voters to support the party in the upcoming December elections.

The GARID project aligns with the government’s goal of enhancing flood risk and solid waste management in the Greater Accra Region. The project aims to reduce the effects of flooding on households, businesses, and establishments situated in flood-prone zones along the Odaw River in Accra. This will ultimately contribute to the advancement of economic and social welfare in the region.
