Unauthorized use of military uniforms is prohibited – GAF
The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has issued a strong caution against the unauthorized utilization of military-style clothing and equipment during public demonstrations in the nation.
In a declaration released on Monday, October 14, GAF raised concerns regarding the increasing occurrence of individuals donning unapproved military attire while offering security services for prominent individuals.
Despite previous warnings, this behavior is continuing to escalate, with some individuals even wearing these uniforms in illegal mining regions. GAF has stressed that the unauthorized usage of military uniforms presents a significant security threat and carries the potential to damage the reputation of the military.
“The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has observed the illicit and unauthorized employment of military-style uniforms and gear by protesters during demonstrations, as well as by hired security personnel for certain public figures.”
GAF has also expressed disappointment over similar unlawful activities observed among individuals operating in illegal mining regions (Galamsey sites) and certain political activists. Despite continuous education and warnings, the alarming trend seems to be on the rise.
The GAF has warned that individuals who flout the regulations will be subject to legal consequences, and has encouraged the public to report any questionable activities related to unauthorized military clothing.
Due to the security risks posed by these illicit actions, the GAF will now take firm measures, such as apprehending those who contravene the regulations to face legal repercussions. We encourage the public to report any suspicious activities related to unauthorized military clothing.
“GAF affirms its dedication to safeguarding citizens and upholding Ghana’s territorial integrity.” As the nation nears the 2024 general elections, the collaboration of every individual is crucial in maintaining peace and security.
