The National Cathedral will highlight Ghana’s cultural heritage – Dr. Opoku-Mensah
Paul Opoku-Mensah emphasized the true aims of the National Cathedral project. His efforts focus on clarifying misconceptions and highlighting the potential benefits of the cathedral, such as revenue generation and the promotion of Ghana’s cultural heritage.
However, the government’s support for the construction has encountered opposition. Critics question the appropriateness of government involvement and raise concerns about transparency in financial matters. At a symposium with TD Jakes’ divinity school, Dr. Opoku-Mensah addressed these issues. Opoku-Mensah emphasized the significance of the cathedral’s functions. He articulated that the purpose of the event is to underscore the positive impact the cathedral can have on the community and the nation as a whole.
“The symposium is envisioned as the National Cathedral’s response to what we in Ghana perceive as initiatives aimed at reconnecting Ghana with the African diaspora through faith-based means.
This collaboration aims to foster a Pan-African community that collectively addresses historical, racial, and contemporary aspects of Africa’s contributions to theological practice.
We aim to showcase the diverse functions of the National Cathedral, as the project is often misconstrued solely as a physical church edifice.
The National Cathedral transcends its role as a church, engaging in crucial national, continental, and global dialogues.”
He praised TD Jakes’ divinity school for its efforts in educating students from across the African continent.
