The Judicial Service assures expedient handling of election-related issues
The Judicial Service of Ghana has affirmed its commitment to efficiently addressing any election-related issues presented to the court before, during, and after the 2024 general elections.
This process will adhere strictly to the guidelines outlined in the recently published manual on election adjudications. In a statement released on Tuesday, October 22, the Judicial Service declared that Ghana’s Judiciary is prepared to expeditiously handle all election-related cases surrounding the 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary elections in accordance with the provisions set forth in the new Manual on Election Adjudication, the 5th edition.
These reassurances come in the wake of a discussion with a Group of Eminent Persons from the Christian Council of Ghana in Accra. The session was attended by the Chief Justice, Her Ladyship Justice Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo, members of the Elections Management Committee of the Judiciary led by His Lordship Paul Baffoe Bonnie JSC, and the Judicial Secretary.
During the meeting, the Chief Justice emphasized the importance of Ghanaians having confidence in the judiciary to uphold the peace of the country.
At a dialogue session with a Group of Eminent Persons from the Christian Council of Ghana in Accra, the Chief Justice, Her Ladyship Justice Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo, along with members of the Elections Management Committee of the Judiciary chaired by His Lordship Paul Baffoe Bonnie JSC, and the Judicial Secretary, Her Ladyship Justice Cyra Pamela C.A. Koranteng JA, offered reassurance to Ghanaians that the Courts are prepared to promptly address election-related cases in compliance with the law and the new Manual on Election Adjudication guidelines.
His Lordship Justice Paul Baffoe Bonnie of the Supreme Court, Chairman of the Elections Management Committee of the Judiciary, outlined significant actions taken by the Committee since its establishment in the 2023/2024 Legal Year to oversee the Judiciary’s readiness for the 2024 General Elections.
