Remove the Picture of Akua Donkor from the Ballot Paper – Kofi Akpaloo
Kofi Akpaloo, the presidential candidate for the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), has asked the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa, to reconsider her choice of including the late Akua Donkor’s picture on the ballot papers for the 2024 election.
He believes that the ballots should not feature the image of the deceased GFP flagbearer. Akpaloo, considering that the EC had given approval to replace the founder and leader of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), Madam Akua Donkor, her image would be removed. It is in this manner that Mr. Akpaloo is urging the EC to produce the ballot papers without Madam Akua Donkor’s image.
He believes that having her on the ballot paper could influence the results of the December 7 elections.
During a press conference in Accra on November 13th, Mr. Akpaloo made this request.
Akpaloo restated that excluding Madam Akua Donkor’s image from the ballot would help maintain the integrity of the December 7 elections and prevent any potential confusion. He expressed concern that including Akua Donkor’s picture on the ballot would lead to various issues in the country.
Voters may choose Akua Donkor, who is known to be deceased. This raises a question about how the counting process will be carried out in the presidential election. Normally, calculations are done based on the percentage of votes each candidate receives.
Will the votes cast for Akua Donkor be excluded from the final count, or will they still be included? Akpaloo stated that there should not be instances where a candidate refuses to accept election results due to percentages. Therefore, he is requesting the Electoral Commission to produce new ballot papers without Akua Donkor’s image.
