Parliamentary Impasse: NDC Minority Criticized for Disrespecting Constituents
Smart Sarpong has denounced the actions of the NDC Minority in Parliament that occurred on Tuesday, October 22.
The Minority currently holds the majority position in the Legislative House, as ordered by the Speaker. The MPs representing Agona West, Amenfi Central, Fomena, and Suhum have had their seats declared vacant by Speaker Alban Bagbin.
On Tuesday, the Minority conducted a march on the floor of Parliament while the Majority exited the chamber to maintain order and peace in the House. During Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” show, Prof. Sarpong commented on the issue.
Smart Sarpong criticized the NDC bench MPs for rejecting the Supreme Court verdict, which halted the Speaker’s order. Instead, they threatened to incite a riot in Parliament had the Majority not boycotted the House.
“It seems that Parliament is unwilling to show the necessary respect to the Supreme Court or the Judiciary,” he stated, urging the MPs to honor the courts, which are authorized by the Constitution to settle disputes.
Discussing their responsibilities, Prof. Sarpong emphasized the importance of respecting the institution and their duties.
Sarpong urged the Members of Parliament to effectively advocate for their constituents by emphasizing the importance of considering the individuals they represent. Please, Members of Parliament, bear in mind that you are acting on behalf of certain individuals.
