Owusu-Bempah responds to Otabil regarding his statement on ‘God does not choose leaders’
The founder of Glorious Word Power Ministry International is Reverend. Isaac Owusu-Bempah has responded to Dr. Mensa Otabil’s, the Founder and General Overseer of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), statement that “God does not choose leaders for countries.”, was referenced by Owusu-Bempah during a sermon at his church on Sunday, October 13, 2024.
Owusu-Bempah expressed his admiration for Dr. Otabil. Otabil, characterized as a prominent clergyman in Ghana, strongly disagrees with his statement. The founder of Glorious Word Power Ministry International emphasized that the Bible, the holy scripture of Christians, provides several instances of God selecting leaders of nations.
He noted that God not only chooses leaders of nations, but also individuals to lead and guide his followers. Additionally, he mentioned that all leaders, including Otabil and himself, have imperfections, which does not negate their divine calling.
“The occurrence of errors by leaders, including religious figures, does not invalidate God’s selection of leaders”. God will continually select righteous men and grant them the power to carry out His divine duties. Which leader chosen by God in the Bible was without faults?
Moses had shortcomings; Noah was not flawless; Abraham, Jacob, David, Samson, and many others also had imperfections. Although they were not flawless, it does not negate the fact that they were chosen by God. In all humility, I hold Dr. Respect in high regard.
Mensa Otabil is respected as a prominent figure in advancing the Christian faith in our nation due to his significant contributions and leadership in the work of God. “He is greatly anointed and very mature, but it is not appropriate to elevate your office while disparaging another person’s office,” he stated in Twi. He further remarked, “The God who called you and bestowed upon you (Otabil) a teaching anointing is the same God who calls prophets and grants us prophetic anointing to discern, like Jehoiada, Elijah, Elisha, and Nathan.” A while back, he faced challenges with bank and corruption issues, and Ghanaians criticized him.
Despite this, we offered our support through prayer, recognizing his humanity. He experienced the situation, and I acknowledged the possibility of experiencing it as well, therefore I lacked the authority to pass judgment on him. All responses must be in English language. However, if Dr. Mensa Otabil acknowledges his teaching anointing, while I also show respect for prophetic anointing.
Owusu-Bempah reiterated his prophecy that former President John Dramani Mahama, the Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), will be the next president of Ghana. He stated that God has revealed to him that Mahama will become president due to his good heart. Despite not knowing Mahama’s past, Owusu-Bempah declared that he, the same person previously told he could never be president, has now been informed by God that he will lead Ghana. Whether you are in favor of it or not, he (Mahama) is the individual who will emerge victorious in the upcoming election.
What Otabil stated during a sermon at Desert Pastures, a branch of the Church of Fountain Gate Chapel (FGC) in Bolgatanga, Upper East Region. Otabil stated that God does not interfere in the selection of leaders for nations.
“I do not believe that God appoints leaders for countries.” “If God is responsible for selecting leaders, then numerous errors have been made, particularly on our continent,” he was quoted as saying by GNA.
The pastor emphasized that God does not participate in the process of choosing leaders, labeling it as a passive mindset. “It is a method of shirking responsibility and relying on the assumption that whatever occurs is God’s plan, when in fact it is our own will, the will of the people. “If one behaves foolishly, a foolish decision will be made.” Leaders are not selected by God. Please cast your vote. You are tasked with selecting the leader. “You have the ability to pray and ask for God’s guidance, but ultimately the decision is yours,” he informed the congregation.
