NPP plans to establish educational facilities for cashew growers – NAPO

The vice presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, also referred to as NAPO, stated that the upcoming NPP administration has improved strategies for enhancing cashew production.

He emphasized that Dr. Bawumia administration plans to offer incentives to support the growth of cashew production, which will contribute to the expansion of the economy. Bawumia’s NPP administration plans to establish educational facilities for cashew growers nationwide. This initiative was revealed during a speech in Duadaso, Jaman North Constituency, on Monday, November 4, 2024.

NAPO highlighted the importance of cashew farming in boosting the country’s foreign exchange earnings. He emphasized the significance of concentrating on and backing the sector.

He urged individuals involved in the cashew business, particularly farmers, to support Dr. Bawumia and the NPP are expected to win the election as they have superior plans for the people. “Your lives will improve drastically with Dr. Bawumia becomes the president of the nation. He will supply everything necessary to increase cashew production.

“I urge you to promote Dr. last_name’s positive goals. Napo urged cashew farmers in Jaman North to talk about the achievements of the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia government with their colleagues in other areas so they can all support the NPP at the polls.

The establishment of the Tree Crops Development Authority (TCDA) by the current government has led to improvements in cashew production. Pricing mechanisms for cashew and other tree crops have been developed under the TCDA to encourage producers to increase production sustainably.

This pricing model determines costs and margins for activities from the farm gate to processing facilities or ports. The trading price for the 2023/2024 crop season was GH¢8.10 per kilogram and is expected to rise to around GH¢13.0 to incentivize farmers to expand their production.

As a result of these government interventions, exports of raw cashew nuts have reached a record high of 450,000 metric tonnes by December 2023. The TCDA is actively working with relevant government agencies to maintain the quality of Ghanaian cashew, which is ranked second globally, by regulating cross-border cashew trade for exports from sub-Saharan Africa.

Furthermore, the NPP government is offering free extension services and subsidized agricultural inputs to cashew farmers to boost production. These initiatives, alongside other interventions, have significantly contributed to the growth of the cashew industry in the country. Bawumia becomes president.
