NPP has many intricacies and challenges – Lawyer Twum Barimah
A legal practitioner, Lawyer Twum Barimah, has characterized Ghana’s current government as “intricate and convoluted” in light of the recent conflicts between the Speaker of Parliament and the Chief Justice.
Speaking to Kasapa News, Lawyer Twum Barimah expressed his perspectives on the ongoing disputes between the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, and the Chief Justice. He stated that the NPP government has become “complex and complicated,” especially due to the current disagreements over the Speaker’s decision to declare the seats of four members of parliament vacant.
He stated, “The government is complex and complicated because the Speaker is simply following the law, so I don’t see any issue with it.” Barimah highlighted that the Speaker’s actions are based on legal principles and questioned the reason for the public outcry now.
He added, “The same law was applied in the cases of both Adwoa Safo and Kennedy Agyapong, and there was no objection raised.”
Therefore, given that this problem has arisen and he is utilizing the same legal approach to address it, why are they encountering difficulties with that?” Barimah expressed that, in his opinion, Speaker Bagbin is operating in accordance with the law, completely endorsed by the constitution.
“The Speaker is solely operating within the bounds of the constitution and legal statutes,” he concluded. He thinks this is why the present situation seems so “intricate and convoluted,” particularly due to the varying understandings of the law.
