Nine mining companies are taking legal action against the Paramount Chief of Atti-Morkwa
The embattled Paramount chief of the Atti-Morkwa Traditional Area in the Central Region, Oseadeeyo Kwesi Kennin IV, currently facing legal challenges related to alleged illegal mining activities, now confronts a new lawsuit.
Nine additional mining companies have filed a lawsuit against the chief, accusing him of unauthorized mining on their concessions.
These companies assert that Oseadeeyo Kwesi Kennin IV has trespassed on their mining lands, further complicating his legal disputes. Previously, Kadesh Mining Enterprise had taken legal action against the Chief for unauthorized mining operations on their concession, also located in the Central Region.
This latest legal action adds to the growing legal pressure on him. The nine mining firms are seeking a court order to restrain the Chief and his employees from encroaching on their concessions.
They also seek the court’s intervention in restoring and reclaiming the mined areas. In a court session held on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, His Lordship Samuel Faraday Johnson, presiding over the case, adjourned the proceedings to October 28, 2024.
The judge is awaiting a ruling from the Kumasi High Court regarding jurisdiction in the case involving Kadesh Mining Enterprise and the Paramount Chief.
