NDC will refuse to compile the outcomes for the other constituencies – Rashid Tanko
The Deputy Director of Elections for the National Democratic Congress, Rashid Tanko-Computer, has stated that the party will reject the collation and announcement of results for the four remaining constituencies.
While speaking with reporters on Sunday, January 5, 2025, he called the process unlawful and pledged to contest it legally.
“The injustices occurring here will be addressed through legal channels. We will not permit this. We have taken note of the situation, and I have been duly informed by our National Chairman, the General Secretary, and my superior, Dr. Omane Boamah, to reassure the public that the NDC will not engage in this illegality, will not involve itself with it, and will not acknowledge anything that arises from it,” he stressed.
The recounting of results ensued after a decision from the High Court on Saturday, January 4, 2025, which accepted a request by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to require the Electoral Commission (EC) to finish the tallying of parliamentary results for the constituency.
Judge Forson Agyapong, who oversaw the case, ruled in favor of the NPP by issuing a mandamus order, instructing the EC to complete the recount process.
In his ruling, Judge Agyapong indicated that the EC had neglected to compile results from 31 pending polling stations in the constituency, which represented a failure of its responsibilities.
The court later mandated the EC to tally the results from the outstanding polling stations and include them in the totals that had already been compiled.
Rashid Tanko also mentioned that the NDC was ready to handle the issue through judicial means.
“Have you noticed our candidates here? Have you seen any of them? They were present and swore to the affidavit we submitted. So, if any of our party members is uninformed, they can come. However, this does not legitimatize the process. It’s an unlawful endeavor, and we will not take part in it. I assure you; this is the stance of the NDC. I have been commissioned by the party leadership to inform the public that whatever is happening here, they can be assured we will fight it to the very end,” he stated.
