Joe Wise expressed his disappointment in the performance of the 8th Parliament
The First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joseph Osei-Owusu, has publicly expressed his strong dissatisfaction with the performance and behavior of the Members of the 8th Parliament of Ghana.
In an interview with Citi News, Joe Wise criticized the current parliamentary session for lacking focus, being filled with controversies, and failing to prioritize its main responsibility of legislating.
He noted that the 8th Parliament has not met the legislative standards set by previous sessions and has fallen short of expectations. Joe Wise lamented the state of the 8th Parliament, highlighting that instead of focusing on lawmaking, the House has often been distracted by unnecessary disputes.
One specific concern he raised was the low number of laws passed in comparison to past sessions, indicating a notably decreased legislative output in the 8th Parliament. I previously stated that there has been minimal progress in terms of legislation. The number of laws and smaller legislations enacted demonstrates the extent of our legislative output.
We have spent a considerable amount of time on insignificant things and matters of little consequence. Our primary responsibility is to enact legislation. “If you examine the number of laws passed by our Parliament in the past four years and compare it with other Parliaments, you will find that the eighth Parliament has passed the fewest laws.
This has been a period marked by controversy.” “Matters that were once resolved through discussion and action are now being handled through physical conflict, which is greatly disappointing to me.”
