I’m unworried by petition to declare my seat vacant – Amenfi Central MP
The petition filed by the Minority caucus seeking to declare the seat of Peter Yaw Kwakye-Ackah, the Member of Parliament for Amenfi Central, vacant has been met with indifference by him.
Kwakye-Ackah, who is running as an independent candidate in the upcoming parliamentary elections, attributed his decision to what he perceives as unfair treatment from the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Specifically, he pointed to the party’s endorsement of his opponent as the NDC’s parliamentary candidate for Amenfi Central as a key reason for leaving the party.
During an interview with Citi News in Parliament on Tuesday, October 15, Kwakye-Ackah addressed the controversy surrounding his seat, emphasizing that he is not concerned about the petition and is focused on his independent candidacy going forward. He mentioned,
“The announcement was made that I had shown support to the individual who falsified documents, which led to a court injunction on the parliamentary primary and the person being declared unopposed.”
I believe that it is unfair. It is important to consistently treat individuals with fairness and equity. When committing to a reelection, it is crucial to provide an equal opportunity for all involved. By ensuring a fair process, individuals will accept defeat with understanding and respect.
What is the reason to proceed with the nomination process and accept my payment, when you can simply retain my GH¢45,000, a substantial sum of money? I have made the decision that if there is public support, I will run independently.
