I will establish mechanization centers in each district to enhance agricultural productivity – Bawumia
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has announced plans to enhance the agricultural sector in Ghana through the establishment of a district mechanisation center in every district nationwide.
This initiative, as highlighted by Bawumia, will be a focal point of his administration’s commitment to addressing the needs of farmers if elected as president in the upcoming December 7 elections.
Speaking at a campaign rally in Juapong, Volta Region, Bawumia recognized the long-standing challenges faced by Ghanaian farmers and expressed his dedication to providing support and resources to improve their farming activities.
He underscored the significant contribution of agriculture to Ghana’s economy and the livelihoods of its citizens, emphasizing the importance of irrigation systems in enhancing agricultural practices, particularly in regions susceptible to drought and erratic rainfall patterns.
Bawumia also acknowledged the vulnerability of farmers relying on rainfall for their crops, stating that their livelihoods are at risk due to shifting weather conditions and climate change.
The individual committed to prioritizing the enhancement of irrigation infrastructure to enable farmers to cultivate their crops year-round, independent of the rainy season.
“We will support the farmers.” I am interested in concentrating on the field of agriculture. Our farmers require assistance. Irrigation is required. Equipment is required. Tractors are required.
They require the use of combine harvesters. Planters are required. I plan to establish a district mechanization center in each district of Ghana. Our farmers will be provided with the necessary equipment for farming.
