“I call on Mahama to address galamsey issue directly” – Akufo-Addo

Yesterday, the President of Ghana, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, delivered a surprising statement directed towards former President and National Democratic Congress (NDC) flag bearer, John Dramani Mahama, during a ‘Thank You Rally’ in Damongo.

In his address, he urged the former president to be transparent. He proceeded to inquire Mahama about his position on illegal mining, commonly referred to as ‘galamsey’.

Throughout his campaign, Mahama has not definitively stated his stance on galamsey to the Ghanaian public. While some remarks have been made, his position on galamsey remains undisclosed amidst the current national concerns on its impacts.

“John Mahama is urged to clearly outline his stance on galamsey and take a firm stand against illegal mining,” was emphasized. Akuffo Addo’s inquiry to Mahama regarding galamsey could potentially sway voter decisions in the upcoming elections.
