I am restricted to selecting just 60 Ministers – Mahama
President John Dramani Mahama has recognized the difficulty of selecting just 60 ministers from a vast pool of applications received from aspiring candidates.
During his address at the Presidential Dinner held in Accra on Wednesday, January 8, he emphasized the necessity of forming a skilled team to deliver on commitments made to the citizens of Ghana.
“I have begun my work earnestly,” Mahama remarked.
“Earlier today, I held numerous discussions with our primary multilateral and bilateral partners to explore ways to initiate progress that would enhance the lives of our citizens, focusing on economic matters and related issues. Thus, I anticipate that all those involved will share this commitment.”
President John Dramani Mahama pointed out the significant challenge he faces and the heightened expectations of Ghanaians for a more streamlined administration.
“You wouldn’t wish to be in my position when you’ve pledged to select only 60 ministers, while countless individuals are submitting their CVs. Consequently, some might feel let down,” he added.
In spite of these obstacles, Mahama assured the public that the success of the government goes beyond just the selection of ministers.
“The effectiveness of this government may lead us to another term, potentially under a different leader. However, we must get things right for Ghanaians to maintain their trust in us,” he commented.
He also highlighted the need to learn from the errors of the previous government to create a more efficient and credible administration.
“Ghanaians expressed their dissatisfaction with the NPP due to arrogance, incompetence, and a lack of attentiveness to their concerns. There is no point in striving for political power if we are only going to repeat the previous NPP mistakes, which is why I feel a bit uneasy.”
