I am considering participating in the 2026 World Cup – Baba Rahman
Abdul Baba Rahman, a defender for the Black Stars, has shared his goal of participating in the 2026 World Cup in Canada, Mexico, and the USA.
The 30-year-old has been absent from the national team for over a year, with head coach Otto Addo attributing this absence to Rahman being jeered by fans during his last match for Ghana in a 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against the Central African Republic in September 2023.
Rahman has also experienced an extended period on the sidelines due to multiple injuries, including two anterior cruciate ligament ruptures between 2017 and 2020.
Despite these challenges, the former Chelsea player made a comeback to represent Ghana in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, although Ghana was eliminated in the group stages in both tournaments.
Rahman is now focused on aiming for a second World Cup appearance in his career.
In an interview with the BBC, he expressed his thoughts on playing in another World Cup and his belief that Ghana is on track to qualify. Currently, Rahman’s primary focus is on regaining his fitness and gaining playing time with PAOK. Next, I will observe the outcomes in the upcoming days.
Rahman has participated in eight games for PAOK FC in the 2024/25 Greek Super League, scoring two goals this season.
