Grandmother of East Legon accident victim speaks

The grandmother of one of the deceased victims in the fatal car crash that took place at East Legon in Accra is urging for the Salifu Amoako family to be held fully accountable under the law.

Twelve-year-old Justine Agbenu lost her life in the accident that occurred on October 12, 2024, involving Elrad Salifu Amoako, a 16-year-old driver who collided with the car carrying the victims.

In an interview with Kofi Adoma Nwanwani of Kofi TV, the grandmother of Justine shared that her granddaughter was the sole child of her parents and her only granddaughter.

Justine was returning from a party with her friends when the tragic incident occurred. The grandmother condemned Elrad Amoako’s involvement in the death of her granddaughter and called for him and his parents to be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law as a deterrent to others.

She also mentioned that she had dismissed some representatives who had been sent to her ancestral home by Bishop Salifu Amoako to beg, stating that some individuals sent by the Bishop to request on his family’s behalf resorted to making inappropriate remarks.

“It is not for the purpose of bringing my granddaughter back, but rather to act as a deterrent.” “We have excessively indulged our children,” she expressed.

“What was their purpose in coming? I do not have a problem with them; the matter lies with the police.” On Sunday, I received communication that one of them had contacted my son-in-law, expressing a desire to visit.

He informed him that the problem was with law enforcement and therefore no action was necessary. She stated his response as, “it has occurred already,” when questioned about her decision to dismiss Bishop Amoako’s delegates.

Meanwhile, Kofi Adoma Nwanwani disclosed in a video that the deceased Justine was related to the late Professor Emmanuel Yaw Benneh, a law professor at the University of Ghana who was brutally murdered in 2020. The journalist also mentioned that Elrad Amoako is currently hospitalized for recovery after the accident.

Bishop Salifu Amoako, Mouha Amoako, and Linda Bempah, a detained sales assistant linked to the incident, have been released on bail by a court.
