Flower Pot Interchange: Department of Transportation guarantees improved traffic flow starting November 15
The Ministry of Roads and Highways has confirmed that the heavy traffic congestion around the Flower Pot Flyover is expected to improve by the end of Friday, November 15.
Ahmed Nasir Yartey, the Ministry’s Public Relations Officer, shared this information during an interview on the Citi Breakfast Show with Caleb Kudah on Thursday, November 14.
He stated that efforts from both the government and the contractor are in place to alleviate the congestion, with visible changes anticipated by Monday, November 18.
Yartey stated that the contractor is working 24/7 to make progress on the project. However, certain tasks, like applying asphalt, cannot be done during nighttime. The public is asked to understand the situation, especially regarding the Flower Pot Flyover. It is hoped that by the end of the day tomorrow (Friday, November 14), there will be some relief in the traffic situation.
By Monday, it is expected that the traffic will greatly improve in that area. Despite the contractor’s continuous work, some tasks, such as asphalt finishing, cannot be done at all hours. We are unable to perform the task at night. It must be done during the day to monitor progress. Tasks suitable for nighttime will be completed then, while daytime tasks will be handled during the day.
The Ministry has also made a public request to commuters for their patience and cooperation during this period. Yartey advised drivers to steer clear of the Flower Pot Flyover area if possible due to limited alternative routes. “It’s important for road users to understand that there are few diversion options available. If you can avoid using that route unless absolutely necessary, it’s best to do so,” he said.
His comments come after commuters expressed worries about the traffic congestion in the area. Some motorists informed Citi FM that they spent more than two hours stuck in traffic on that road section.
