December 7 Elections: “We will soon announce which political party we shall support” – GFP

After the disqualification of Ghana’s Freedom Party (GFP) flagbearer, Philip Appiah Kubi, also known as Roman Fada, the party will soon announce which political party they will endorse for the upcoming December 7 elections.

The Electoral Commission of Ghana reviewed the documents submitted by Philip Appiah Kubi as the replacement for the late Akua Donkor. The commission, led by Madam Jean Mensa, found significant irregularities in the documents, resulting in Kubi’s disqualification.

Despite being given a 10-day grace period to fix the issues, EC Chairperson Jean Mensa deemed some of the irregularities unacceptable, leading to Kubi’s removal from the presidential race.

Following the EC’s announcement on November 12, 2024, GFP’s National Organiser, Richard Botchway, informed the media of the party’s decision to support another political party.

Richard Botchway stated, “…We will convene to finalize our decision.” I will meet with the national executive and we will endorse a political party,” he said. He also mentioned that all political parties know that no one will be running for the GFP in the next election. So, we have collectively decided to establish a strong framework and select a new candidate for the upcoming election.

“…We are currently in mourning, but we are committed to revitalizing Aunty Akua Donkor’s party in the next election.” We have a unified front.

“We began with Madam Akua Donkor in 2012 and 2016, so what our General Secretary stated on air was incorrect and should not be regarded seriously.”
