Confusion as EC recompiles results at Ablekuma North

Disorder broke out on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, during the reassembling of election outcomes in the Ablekuma North area, centered around the legitimacy of pink sheets.

This operation, aimed at resolving results from a few remaining stations in the constituency, sparked heated arguments between polling representatives and supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who alleged that the Electoral Commission (EC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) were colluding to manipulate the results in favor of their candidate, Nana Akua Afriyie.

In a conversation with reporters on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, Evans Nimako, the NPP’s Director of Elections, highlighted the necessity of following legal protocols when addressing electoral disagreements.

He reiterated that political entities were instructed to present their copies of Form 8A results, whether in physical or digital format, for the EC’s confirmation.

He pointed out that this procedure is vital for preserving the credibility of the election results.

“The community must permit the legal system to function; we have 276 constituencies, and results for 275 have been announced. Nevertheless, in Ablekuma North, there are still seven polling stations awaiting resolution due to pending matters,” he remarked.

The EC momentarily halted the collation process on Monday, January 6, owing to unresolved matters regarding results from seven polling stations.

From an initial count of 20 outstanding polling stations, presiding officers confirmed 13 pink sheets submitted by the NPP as valid.

This re-collation comes in response to a High Court judgement that instructed the EC to resolve disputes and re-collate results in four constituencies, including Ablekuma North.

Yet, this process has only heightened tensions and raised issues concerning the transparency and fairness of the electoral system.
