Compensate NABCO trainees if you value the young people – Mahama to Bawumia
Ex-President John Dramani Mahama and the Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have raised doubts about the reliability of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia made a recent commitment to generate employment opportunities for the youth in the nation.
While speaking to a group in Kwamikrom in the Biakoye constituency during his tour of the Oti Region, Mahama highlighted the ongoing struggles faced by former participants of the Nation Builders Corps (NABCO). These individuals are reportedly owed several months of overdue allowances, as reported by citinewsroom.com.
John Mahama emphasized that numerous NABCO beneficiaries have been waiting for their promised allowances for an extended period. The New Patriotic Party (NPP) had previously pledged to secure jobs for these participants once their program concluded.
Mahama contended that prior to Dr. Bawumia’s promise, efforts to fulfill this commitment had fallen short. Bawumia could be relied on to deliver on new commitments regarding youth employment, he should focus on addressing NABCO’s unpaid financial dues.
“The NPP government pledged to secure employment for NABCO participants upon program completion. It has been more than three years, but it still hasn’t occurred. The promised allowances for the trainees during the training have not been paid. All attempts by the trainees to address their concerns have been unsuccessful.
If truly Dr. Bawumia is dedicated to securing employment opportunities for young people. He needs to prioritize addressing their issues,” he mentioned.
This statement came after Bawumia’s speech at the Youth Connect event held at the Borteyman Sports Complex in Accra. During his address, he emphasized the significance of the youth in his development plan for Ghana.
In detailing his strategy for job generation, Bawumia revealed intentions to enact business-friendly policies geared towards generating as many as four million jobs. He positioned this initiative as a key component of his agenda to revamp the economy and tackle youth unemployment.
