Chairman Dollar clarifies: “I apprehend drugs, I do not promote drugs.”
Following the Ministry of Transport’s announcement that all security officers involved in the Kotoka International Airport cocaine smuggling case have been cleared of wrongdoing, Eric Nartey Yeboah, also known as Chairman Dollar, has broken his silence.
The incident took place on March 23, 2024, involving an attempted smuggling of 8.5 kilograms of cocaine on a Royal Air Maroc flight. The drugs were intercepted at Brussels Airport in Belgium, leading to accusations against a staff member of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) for facilitating the operation. In response, GACL suspended several employees pending an investigation.
Transport Minister Kwaku Ofori Asiamah confirmed before the Government Assurances Committee in Parliament that after a thorough investigation, the implicated employees were exonerated and reinstated. In an exclusive interview with classfmonline.com, Yeboah expressed his relief and gratitude for being cleared of the allegations, emphasizing that as an officer at Kotoka International Airport (KIA), he does not deal in drugs but arrests offenders.
He further expressed his gratitude for the vindication after facing judgment without being heard, urging journalists to verify stories before publishing, particularly in sensitive cases like his. “I bear no ill will towards anyone,” he stated.
“I am simply grateful for the vindication of my reputation.”
“This is a reputation I have established through years of dedicated service as a security officer, defending my country.”
He further urged the Ghana Airports Company management to issue a public statement confirming the exoneration of the implicated officers, similar to their initial response to the allegations.
“Why withhold the statement from the public now that the officers have been cleared?” he queried, imploring the company to take the appropriate action and formally dispel any doubts.
