Be humble in life – Mogtari advises Afenyo-Markin

Joyce Bawah Mogtari, a Special Aide to John Dramani Mahama, the Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has counseled Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the former Majority Leader in Parliament who now serves as Minority Leader, to demonstrate humility in his public and political activities.

After the events in Parliament on Thursday, October 17, 2024, where Afenyo-Markin’s transition from Majority Leader to Minority Leader occurred swiftly, Bawah Mogtari, in a statement on the social media platform X, stressed the significance of humility in leadership. She suggested that Afenyo-Markin should refrain from arrogance in his pursuits.

“When you receive blessings early in life, it is important to remain humble; recognizing that there are numerous individuals, some even more adept and others superior to you, who may not have been chosen.

” Upon each instance of promotion from God, embrace it with humility and reverence. You demonstrate commendable qualities, however, your strong bias and disrespectful comments towards Prof. stand out negatively. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang expressed disappointment in the behavior, stating, “Take a few lessons from this experience, sir,” on her social media platform.

Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, the former Majority Leader in Parliament who now serves as the Minority Leader, caused a stir during a live radio and TV interview by insisting that the journalist address him by his previous title before the interview.

The transition of the New Patriotic Party (NDC) Members of Parliament from the Majority Caucus to the Minority side was swift on Thursday, October 17, following the declaration of four vacant seats by the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin.

This shift in leadership titles occurred after a parliamentary maneuver by the NDC MPs, citing Article 97 [1(g) & (h)] of the 1992 Constitution, which outlines the conditions under which a member of Parliament must vacate their seat.

Haruna Iddrisu led the move as a response to NPP members filing nominations as independent candidates for the upcoming parliamentary election. Effutu MP Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who has taken legal action against the Minority’s efforts to declare the seats vacant, expressed his frustration during a live interview on Joy FM and Joy News. Please reintroduce me.

The journalist replied, “We have Alexander Afenyo-Markin, MP for Effutu, on the line.”
The displeased MP responded, “You must introduce me correctly or I will disconnect.”
The journalist quickly readdressed him.

“Is it acceptable to label you as the Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin?” inquired the journalist.
The MP reacted, “Young man, you should introduce individuals appropriately.

You are responsible for remembering these tasks without any need for reminders from me. What are the benefits of engaging in banter? Is it acceptable for us to engage in banter?”

The journalist replied, “No, no. “I simply stated that I am the Majority Leader,” the MP quickly interjected, pointing out, “You initially mentioned Alexander Afenyo-Markin, followed by MP for Effutu, before I corrected you.” We kindly request adherence to proper protocols.

Is it acceptable for all responses to be generated in the English language? Let’s proceed by doing the correct thing. The journalist then apologized, saying, “Please forgive me.” Allow me to introduce Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin.

A contented Afenyo-Markin replied, “Yes, sir, good evening to you; thank you for having me.”
