Bagbin’s social media post prior to the Tuesday session is stirring up responses
The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin posted on social media prior to the House meeting on Tuesday, October 22, 2024.
Mr. Bagbin’s Facebook post stated, “May God bless Ghana and elevate it to greatness and strength, surpassing any individual or institution.”
The Speaker of Parliament last week declared the following seats vacant:
1. Kwadwo Asante, the current NPP MP for the Suhum constituency in the Eastern Region, who has filed to run as an independent candidate.
2. Andrew Asiamah Amoako, currently an independent MP for the Fomena constituency in the Ashanti Region, who has filed to run in the upcoming election as a candidate for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
3. Peter Kwakye Ackah (Amenfi Central), NDC who has filed to run as independent candidate.
4. Cynthia Morrison, the current NPP MP for Agona West constituency in the Central Region, who has filed to run as an independent candidate.
However, the Supreme Court on Friday stayed the ruling of the Speaker declaring the seats vacant.

His post has elicited varied reactions from netizens with some suggesting that Parliamentarians have placed themselves above the law.
“But is it even Cryptic? I thought we all know what he’s talking about. We’re living in a country where a group have made a law and positioned themselves above the laws the created,” an account user commented.

Another, wholly agreed with the Speaker’s message.
This message is so clear and straight forward. The speaker is wise.
