Avoid pursuing any spending on capital projects – Mahama to MMDCDs
President John Dramani Mahama has communicated an order to all Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Coordinating Directors (MMDCDs), warning them not to engage in any activities related to capital expenditure.
This order follows the decision to revoke the positions of all Chief Executives of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) and their Assembly members, which will take effect on January 8, 2025.
In a statement that was released on Wednesday, Amin Abdul-Rahman, the Chief Director of the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralisation, and Rural Development, mentioned, “All MMDCDs must assume administrative control over their respective MMDAs immediately.”
“However, all MMDCDs should be aware that they are prohibited from initiating any activities concerning capital expenditures during this timeframe. On behalf of the President, we express our gratitude to all departing Hon. MMDCEs and Hon. Appointed Assembly Members for their contributions to the Republic of Ghana.”
The statement instructed all Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Coordinating Directors (MMDCDs) to promptly take on administrative responsibilities for their respective MMDAs.
“All Hon. MMDCEs are required to transition their responsibilities, government property in their possession, and any pertinent documents to the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Coordinating Directors (MMDCDs), who will manage the routine operations of the Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) until the appointment of new Hon. MMDCEs by the President. Additionally, all appointed Hon. Assembly Members who possess public assets must return them immediately to their respective MMDCDs.”
