Ato Forson is appointed as the Majority Leader in Ghana’s 9th parliament

The representative for Ajumako Enyan Essiam, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has been appointed as the Majority Leader in Ghana’s 9th Parliament.

This change comes after the caucus of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) decided to keep its leadership from the previous Parliament in the current legislative period.

Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, the MP for Ellembelle, will assist Dr. Forson, having moved from his previous role as Deputy Minority Leader to become the Deputy Majority Leader.

Kwame Agbodza, the Adaklu MP, has been designated as the Majority Chief Whip, maintaining his essential position in overseeing party discipline and legislative coordination.

Ahmed Ibrahim, representing Banda and previously serving as the Deputy Minority Chief Whip, has now taken on the role of Deputy Majority Chief Whip, ensuring a smooth leadership transition within the NDC’s parliamentary group.

These changes come after President-elect John Dramani Mahama recommended Alban Bagbin for the position of Speaker of Parliament for the upcoming 9th session.

Speaker Bagbin, who held the same role in the 8th Parliament, has played a significant role in promoting unity among the NDC and the wider Parliament.

The resolution to keep the NDC’s front bench leadership was confirmed during a caucus meeting that took place right after the official end of the 8th Parliament at the stroke of midnight on January 6, 2025.

This decision highlights the party’s trust in its current leadership and their capability to address the challenges that lie ahead in the new parliamentary term.
