Akufo-Addo to commission Flower Pot interchange November 19
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is set to inaugurate the Flower Pot interchange on Tuesday, November 19, 2024.
The announcement was disclosed by Eugene Arhin, Director of Communications at the Jubilee House, on Sunday. The flyover, once operational, will enhance traffic flow between the northern and southern parts of the motorway. The construction project aims to improve transportation between Cantonments and Burma Camp to East Legon, Spintex, and Tema, making life better for residents in these areas.
Key elements of the project include an 802-meter dual carriageway viaduct with asphaltic concrete surfacing, a 140-meter ramp from Shiashie to Airport Hills, and an 80-meter ramp from the viaduct to the motorway towards Tema.
Other features of the interchange include a new road through the old tunnel at East Legon, an additional 200 meters of road connecting Cantonments from Giffard Road Interchange, a redesign of the Flower Pot roundabout and pedestrian walkways on each side of the flyover, as well as streetlights, road markings, and traffic signals.
The project began on March 7, 2017, and was awarded to China Railway No. 5 Engineering Goals: Company, with Deoke Consult Ltd acting as the consultant. The agreement lasted 93 months and received funding from Afrexim Bank and the Government of Ghana.
